Tragedy in Gansu: UTMB Group statement

We are saddened to hear of the tragedy that took place in a local 100km race in Gansu, in northern China yesterday, that resulted in the unprecedented and tragic loss of life of 21 people.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, as well the participants, volunteers, organisers, and the local authorities who have all been impacted by this tragedy.
This is the largest tragedy to ever hit our sport and we stand in solidarity with the trail running community in offering our sincere condolences and support.
We understand from official statements that the race, which took place at the Yellow River Stone Forest tourist site, was hit by a large storm early afternoon Saturday. We also understand that the Gansu provincial government has set up an official investigation team as we wait for more information.
