François D’Haene claims victory and becomes the most successful male runner of the UTMB®

20:45 is the time it took François D'Haene to win the UTMB® 2021. Starting off with the favourites, he broke away during the night to take the lead with the American Jim Walmsley, who ended up retiring after Courmayeur. With 170km and a 10,000 metre-climb, the race was very physically demanding, taking its toll on the runners, with the retirement of a good part of the favourites in Italy.
No runner would have been a threat to the Frenchman François D'Haene who claimed his fourth victory - following those of 2012, 2014 and 2017 – to become the most successful runner of the UTMB®. The podium is made up of François D'Haene (FR), Aurélien Dunand-Pallaz (FR) and Mathieu Blanchard (FR), a 100% French podium for the first time in the history of the UTMB®.
In the women's category, the American Courtney Dauwalter won both the 2019 and 2021 editions. Like her compatriot Rory Bosio, Courtney Dauwalter confirms that the Americans dominate on the World Summit of Trail Running with 4 victories to their credit.
