A new record, a new victory for Jornet and gripping racing: The UTMB 2022 has kept all its promises

Kilian Jornet won the 19th edition of the UTMB in the early afternoon, his 4th personal victory in the event, being the first athlete to break the 20-hour mark, in 19 hours, 49 minutes and 30 seconds. He finished just 5 minutes ahead of Mathieu Blanchard, (3rd in 2021) who confirmed his talent today with an impressive race and also finished in under 20 hours (19 hours, 54 minutes and 50 seconds).

Kilian Jornet makes history, winning the UTMB Mont-Blanc for the 4th time and setting a new record of 19 :49 :30

The UTMB race, which started Friday evening in Chamonix, set a very high pace right from the off, with the leaders quickly establishing times that were between 15 and 30 minutes ahead of those predicted. American Jim Walmsley led the charge at the end of the night, having dominated the race to Champex-Lac.

Spain dominates the 2022 edition of the OCC

The two runners Manuel Merillas and Antonio Perez dominated the men’s event. Victory was gained by Merillas in 5 hours, 18 minutes and 29 seconds, ahead of his team-mate and room-mate Perez who finished in second place 2 minutes and 30 seconds after him.

UTMB Mont-Blanc: A masterstroke by Ludovic Pommeret while Italian Martina Valmassoi takes her first victory on the TDS

The Frenchman Ludovic Pommeret (UTMB Index 874), who came fourth in the UTMB in 2021, yesterday won the TDS race (145km – 9,100m meters D+) in 18h37. Ludovic crossed the finish line first just under one hour ahead of the Ecuadorian Joaquin Lopez (UTMB Index 827) and Frenchman Elias Kadi (UTMB Index 840). Winner of the UTMB in 2016, Ludovic sealed his second victory on the UTMB® Mont-Blanc in what was his tenth participation.

Start of the PTL and finish of the MCC, the UTMB Mont Blanc is well underway!

It was in the coolness of late August in Chamonix that the PTL runners set off this morning at 8 a.m. 105 teams of 2 or 3 runners took the start of the most mountainous event of the week of the Sommet Mondial du Trail with a programme covering 300km and 26,000 metres of ascent to be completed in a maximum of 151 hours.

With less than 150 days left until the event, the presentation of the new poster announces the upcoming edition, which will be taking place at the end of August in Chamonix and in 18 host towns. After a 3-year collaboration with the Lyon-based designer, Matthieu Forichon, UTMB Group has chosen to bring the artwork in-house to create its new Meet your Extraordinary visual identity.

Priority runners or newcomers, it's time for all trail running lovers to register for the 19th edition of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc. This year, all runners can register at the same time and have 13 days - until January 18 - to pre-register or use a priority entry.
