The first ever OMAN by UTMB® event is proving a popular choice with the original 300 available places already sold out for the 29 November event. As a result we are delighted that organisers Oman Sail have announced that the registration window for a place in the latest addition to the UTMB® calendar will remain open up to a final cut-off date of 30 September. The first UTMB® event ever to be held in the Middle East region, OMAN by UTMB® has seen 300 trail runners – and counting – signing up to take on the challenge offered by Oman’s stunning Jebel Akhdar mountain region.

"The Sultanate is like no other place I’ve run before"

UTMB® co-director Michel Poletti was one of the team which scouted and designed the remote 137km course: “The Sultanate is like no other place I’ve run before. The spectacular scenery, incredible mountains and warm people make this a must-do event,” “Having had the opportunity to revisit Oman I can now add that the country has a fantastic amount to offer visitors, it is very safe, with much to see and do that the whole family can enjoy.”

"It will be great to be part of the first edition.”

This event has aroused huge interest amongst some of the world’s top runners, not least Jim Walmsley: “I am open to new challenges and new experiences all the time, so taking on OMAN by UTMB® is a great fit for me. Oman and this event sound really special. It will be great to be part of the first edition.”

Another early registration came from Gediminas Grinius, no stranger to the UTMB® ethos: “I have run the UTMB® and other major trail events all over the world and I’m excited at the prospect of running somewhere very different and in such a remote and naturally beautiful environment – plus I plan to get out and about around the race and see a bit of the country!

Oman by UTMB® will also have the pleasure to welcome other first class runners such as: Siu Keung Tsang the iconic Hong Kong runner, Andrea Huser, 2nd at UTMB® 2017 and 2016 and Meredith Edwards, 2nd at TDS® 2016, to mention a few.

Anyone who would like to join Jim, Gediminas and runners from no fewer than 49 countries on the start line, has until the final cut-off on 30 September to register.

All the special benefits of participation in OMAN by UTMB® for those hoping to run in the heavily-oversubscribed UTMB® Mont-Blanc will continue to apply. Finishers will earn the maximum number of six qualifying points, valid for three years instead of the usual two, and will save one year in the UTMB® Mont-Blanc registration process. This will double the chance for first-time applicants in the entry lottery for 2019 and guarantee entry for those reapplying a second time after being unsuccessful in 2018.
